TMC V2 ozone generator
Good Evening All
Does anyone add Ozone to their pond?
I've had an idea of adding a ozone generator to my pond via a air pump, I've seen it done by discus keepers years ago but most marine guys do it via a skimmer,
TMC advertise the V2 being for ponds also but the instructions show direct feed to a skimmer?
Can anyone give me some advise on the matter please
Many thanks
DJ

I’ve gone with an ozone generator on my grow on tank, mixing air into a protein skimmer and air stones. I have one of these

I like the science behind it. Anyway so far so good I think.
What is interesting is how widely ozone is used and yet in the koi world it doesn’t seem so popular

You are generating a 3 oxygen atom molecule, because of the 3 atoms it’s very unstable so it effectively splits and you get a free oxygen atom, that doesn’t like being on its own so it attaches to something else. So for instance it could attach to a nitrite molecule, which would turn the nitrite into nitrate.

It’s high powered unstable oxygen so theoretically you could get super saturation but you really would have to go some to do that and certainly at the levels of pond equipment I really don’t see it as a problem, you can though get redox meters if you are so inclined.

Funnily enough I was reading about ozone today and Mike Snaden was saying in deep ponds of 6' plus it can be very dangerous.

The one I'm using is designed for aquariums it's max capacity is a third of my pond water volume but I'm still going to get a ORP monitor for safety

For the life of me I cannot find the exact article. I read it from my Work PC which doesn't save internet history either.
In my search I did find these Mike Snaden interviews the first of which touches on oxygen and deep water (1/3 down the page), and the 2nd one briefly touches on Ozone (2/3 down the page), but I can't find the article that puts the 2 together:

I’ve run ozone in my pond for 5 years, small dose via Redox controller, the ‘polishing’clarity it has added to my water is unreal. I got my gear from Malcolm at Koi Water Garden:
https://www.koicarp.org.uk/koi_water_garden_ozone.htm
He runs it on his ponds, so you can see it in situ if you were interested. My fish have shown no ill effects at all, but you need care and control when using..cheers
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
