Electrical question
I have an Elitech E 1000 temp controller rated at max 10 amp heating.
Am I right in thinking I can run a 2 kw heater from it ?

Like this one, not too good on electrics.

This is one for Frim or Roy.
All I can say is: 2000w / 240v = 8.3 amps.

Yes, that would be within its spec according to my Ohms law calculations
Worth checkling what the hysteresis of that stat is before you order. Ideally you want 0.5C or less to avoid fluctuations.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

I think you will find that she is referring to the stat and it's accuracy rather than the controller's max wattage or ampage rating John.
The 0.5C is referring to 0.5 degrees C so if your controller is set to 15 degrees that actual temperature could be somewhere between 14.5 and 15.5 degrees allowing for the 0.5 degrees + or - your stat could be out by.
Also with a 0.5 degree fluctuation it will mean that your heater won't be switching on and off ever few seconds trying to keep to exactly 15 degrees.
It's something along those lines I think you will find as heating and electronics is not my strong point so Feline may know a lot more about it than I do as being a vet she would probably have more dealing with that sort of thing? You have to be very clever to be a vet probably more so than a doctor as their patience can explain their problems a vet's can't

Well it was gone 8pm and seeing as she still doesn't know about the QT I thought I would have to give it a miss for the day or night in this case

Hysteresis is the amount the temp has to change by before the stat cuts in. So if it has a hysteresis of 0.5C then it will keep the water within 0.5C of the temp. you set. Some of these stats have a 1C hysteresis which is less stable. I've even encountered a. couple with 2C which would really not be ideal for your koi.
This might. explain it better
