Just about to move into a house with Koi
Hi, this is my first post and I am new to the world of koi carp but I am just about to move into a new house that has a pond in the back garden which contains four koi fish. I have been trying my best to do as much research as I can on them. However I am trying to get as much information as I can about them, so if anyone could give me some tips and so on I would be very grateful.
As well as that, I don't know how experienced the person who is selling the house was with them but if you could also just take a look at the picture of the pond and see if there is anything that I need to do straight away. I am just a bit concerned as to how green it is and anything else that you can pick.
Thank you
P.S. sorry for the bad quality of the picture.

Welcome mate the knowledge on here is first class and every one will help if they can .
For the green water the UV could be unplugged or just needs a new bulb . For some reason some people switch off filters uvs pumps over winter. Big no no for me imo but start with them and see what happens pictures of the filters would help for a lot of advice on here . Pond doesn't look really big for koi any idea on size

I am currently unaware but I will be able to tell you next Wednesday when I move in but I will tell you as soon as I can.
Update: I just managed to track down this picture so I am pretty sure that there is filtration of some kind but I don't know how good it is or if it has a UV light. Thank you for your help.

Thank you. I move in next Wednesday so I will be able to tell you then but I was concerned about the size of the pond as well. I would estimate that the koi are about a foot in length but I can't be sure.
Sorry edit here: you can't really see it very well but were the plants are there is a waterfall. I don't know if that helps at all.
Final edit: managed to track down this picture but I don't know how much it will help sorry.Last edited by Akira1609; 24-04-2019 at 12:24 AM.

Looks like a pressure filter from what I can see . Not ideal for koi tbf but get in and sorted have a look around and post any pics possible filter pond the lot and sizes of pond . If the filter is all switched off please dont run and switch it on if its been off for awhile there could be loads of nasties in there that could harm your fish more than waiting a day or to to get the advice off the people on here

Hi Akira and welcome,as Johnathan said dont switch anything on as there will be nasties in the pipes and they will go into the pond.
Yes looks like a pressure filter on the left fed by a submersible pump, some of them have a small UV on top but not very good filters.
Wonder what is under the wooden platform, can you not ask the owner what is on the system, wouldn't worry about the green water but some sort of oxygen return will be needed soon.
When you move in a close pic of the filter and where the flexi pipe goes will help us.
We are here to help you, plenty of pics so we can get a good idea what we are up against.
Have a good move.John

Thank you. I am very thankful for you guys telling me about the filter and I will post pictures and have a closer look when I get in. If you could give me any recommendations an a better filter that would be great so I can have a look and see what sort of price it would be.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
