Thread: Heron :(

  1. #1

    Heron :(

Woke up this morning to a Heron by the pond.
    First time in 3/4 years.
Last time I shot him with an air rifle before he landed.
Lost at least one fish,a beautiful white fancy goldfish that I've had years.
raging, but thankful the rest are still alive.

Two cats sleeping by the window too.

I've my net and sprayer on now. Will probably leave it till I move and get my new pond dug.
Current one is very heron friendly unfortunately.

The sad part is, its doing exactly what it is made to do,eat fish for '' breakfast, dinner, tea and supper ''
and a few other tasty morsels no doubt. So I suppose its up to us to protect our fish as best we can, with nets etc .

Yep there protected now I will sit back and wait for the onslaught...…

    I cured the heron problem
I keep chickens and have a fox fence around them (10,000v) so i ran an extra wire to the pond and ran a few strands of electric fencing wire around the pond. I have cctv, his next and last visit was funny, he left probably still smarting and didnt come back!

Net over the pond. It a pain and all but he will come back the bet will frustrate him and he won’t be back.

My CD hung on a bit of fishing line has kept me Heron free for five years now, until then they were regular visitors. Live near three large reservoirs, I seem to be on the main flight path, they fly over to the reservoirs early morning and fly back again in the evening.
