    Preventative medication

    Hi all, now the temp's are slowly rising , are there or do any of you folks use any preventative medication to try and ward off any pond nasties before they get a hold..

    Just keep a close eye on your water parameters as it's easy for things to get out of kilter at this time of year. Preventative medication not a good idea - you will bread in resistance to the medication apart from anything else. Also a medication for one parasite can leave fish vulnerable to others by for instance stripping back the protective mucus layer.
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
    Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
    JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
    Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

    Agree with Pip . also , treatments can kill off the good bacteria in your filters - and cause water quality issues .

    Better to be vigilant , keep an eye on your fish , and arm yourself with a good quality water testing kit and microscope , in case you need to check for parasites .

    good diet, low stress, good water management and bio security are the only measures you can adopt
