    Diameter of skimmer feed

    Me again

As part of my upgrade I am thinking as I want to fit a sieve on my skimmer line and have a pump running at roughly 15K
( see my push or pull the water post if you like) would I need to up my skimmer piping from 2 inch to 3inch ?

Not got a sieve a present just goes 2 inch to 1 1/2 rubber reducer into the pump which then goes to multi cyclone to the shower which I have a 200 micron screen above the media.

never had a sieve so any help would be great. Like the idea of a stadn alone seive being there as opposed to my nightclub "one in one out" policy of taking my screens out to clean one whilst the other one is in the tower.

    thanks

    Jim

as it will be gravity fed then i would,i actually chopped the bottom out of my wide mouth skimmer and fitted a 8"-4" rubber reducer so i could plumb it into my nexus,,,,andi https://www.toolstation.com/flexible...-to-pvc/p63345

    Jim,

My skimmer which is gravity fed back to an RDF runs on 2" pressure pipe, 2" flexible pipe (to get around odd shaped corners) and 2" Flexseal rubber connectors all under the ground. The distance from skimmer to RDF is around 15 metres and some bits are around corners so fitting 3" pipe etc. would be an expensive nightmare. To clean it I turn off the 4" bottom drain feed into the RDF and allow all of the pond water to come through the skimmer pipes for 10 minutes. This has not been a problem so far as most of the big stuff like bamboo leaves are caught in my skimmer baskets but I have cleaned it out once last spring with one of those long pipe cleaner hoses attached to my Karcher. I kind of think that if I wanted to use 3" on the skimmer I would be drastically reducing the flow in the bottom drain pipes and would need to increase the size of my one pump.

    thanks for the replies .

due to my filter being in the ground ) my pond is not raised) there is a drop as it were of roughly 60cm from the skimmer to where the pump or sieve will be sited

does this mean i could use 2 inch pipe to save space and it I put the pipe to drop vertically then go around 25 degrees bend into the sieve I will get a flow as gravity is working for me so to speak.

    cheers
