Nexus Answer
Does anybody still use the nexus answer?
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F183714352175
If so what is the best set up?
I know they have a high running cost, but could a pump be put on a timer to clear the mesh etc?
Any thoughts?
Cheers

ive seen where people have swapped the old asoe pump out for a newer low wattage one, only thing the answer does really is keep the muck off the screen, you still have to empty the muck out manually,,,andi

I ran a 410 for quite a few years, thought they were good at the time but things have moved on.
I used to have to take the screen out every 2-3 months and clean it, a mix of scale and bio film would start to block it.
The pump failed in the end and the easy came along and that seemed a lot less hassle.
The easy is I think better really as you have to flush the waste anyway so you may as well just turn the air onto the easy, also think the micro k1 on the latest easy is the best so far.
Having said all that I'm fitting a drum at the moment and feel this is the best way as I think most would would agree.

Just reading an old post and saw a statement which reminded me of this thread lol.
This was written by someone who'd been keeping Koi for 22 years and was justifying why he still uses filter bays and doesn't like the modern equipment:
"The filters are old fashion with four bays and a vortex with total volume of about 1000gal and use inert media (I have tried a more modern approach in the past - once including something called "The Answer" which was anything but)."
"The Answer" in my garage where I put it many years ago after removing it from my pre-filter vortex after failing to get it to do what was claimed it could do."
Maybe that says it all as to why there is such limited information about the product.Last edited by RS2OOO; 13-03-2019 at 06:49 PM.

I played aabout with Answers a few years back.
The history is interesting, as I understand it they were offered with a lengthy guarantee but EA didn't get a similar warranty for the bespoke pumps and as a result when the pumps failed EA were left exposed to a load of Warranty claims..
We think that modern drums are expensive; the retail on the Answer was four figures 20 years ago!
Its not too difficult to convert them particularly the 410 to run off low wattage pumps but the main issue is lack if any spares, the bush seal arrangement on the stem wears over time and then leaks which compromises the whole unit as you lose pressure and the efficiency of the unit then drops massively. For the sake of a small say £5 component the unit is trash heaped.
They do need to be run 24/7 no chance of running one on a timer, the screen albeit fairly cparse mesh compared with a drum would clog.
The assembly does provide a useful base for a mini DIY drum filter. I will dig out some pics,
Dave

Good morning Dave I was just wondering where you got the mesh support for the mini drum you built and what it's called? I've looked and carnt seem to find the product you have used, I would prefer that for my project as it looks better than the plastic mesh I'm currently using, thanks steve

The screens are made by Topzeven a Dutch firm, they provide screens for Profi and the like. They are not cheap but do provide an excellent base to build a DIY drum around, Its a load easier than stretching and fixing mesh over a frame yourself. You do need to order the right screen in a pre bowed radius that suits your purpose as whilst they have some flex they don't have that much.
My tip for a successful DIY build would be to muck everything up in ply to test the operation/ alignment etc , then after you have made sure all the right holes are in all the right places its straightforward to use the ply as a patent for the actual build.

The bottom picture was before using the green mesh inside, with the mesh it's alot more smooth and even, just need pond to stop acting up for a day or two so I can finish the drum off, it's gone from nexus outer air chamber failing and then lights and today there was gremlins in one of my pumps, replaced it with new one and that wouldn't prime to feed the Cetus so put both pumps in pond and they both came on together lol so had a break and fixed abs issue on my mates golf, still a issue but wasn't freezing cold water issue
