    Hi

With your water you have plenty of scope CT wise.

The traditional dose is 1gm per 100gallons for reducing the bacterial load in the water, 2gm per 100gallon starts to have an impact on bacterial infections on the fish. You can safely administer the 2gm per 100galon for three days running with your water in the set up you describe. For severe bacterial infections or as a parasite treatment the dosages can be significantly higher in a hospital tank situation.

Sabbactisun is of potential use in the situation you are in although with the water management you are proposing it would probably not be practical, with heat it is an effective remedy.

    Dave

3rd dose of CT just gone in.

I was supposed to turn heat on tonight then add filter tomorrow once CT worn off.

But I may not bother. He has made a fantastic recovery and pending a thorough inspection I think will be ready to go back into main pond on Monday.

May not even need to seal the wounds and fins as they appear to be healing and just need to grow back, but I'll decide this on Monday after the Tamodine has arrived.

Would like to be able to apply it without sedation and this might be possible if I give another salt dip first as that seems to really calm him down.

Personally not a fan of salt baths..

Topical, you either sedate, dry off the area and treat or you don't treat.

If things are looking OK then avoiding un necessary stress is they key in my book

For useing the tamodine no need to sedate the koi just hold the koi gently but firmly and drop some on the affected area, hold the koi for a few seconds and then let it go.
No stress on the koi really I've used it for years. I will only sedate if it's more serious.
Bowl it and someone can help you it's so much easier.

Agree with Dave in that I've never viewed a short term bath/dip of any kind adequate enough to fix a problem, compounded by the fact the stress could make things worse.

But this Showa was clamped on the bottom prior to its last salt bath, and was swimming around after the bath. By the following morning he was much improved. Enough for me to believe it did some good in this instance.

So if a salt bath calms him down enough to handle him and apply Tamodine to infected areas (which it may not), that's preferable to me than sedating. I've only ever sedated a fish once before, all other times have been to euthanize so I'm much more comfortable with the non sedation option if it's practical.

Not around much in daylight hours till Monday, so will make the call then and update.

Only a Week ago death looked imminent, he's done his bit to survive and I'm doing my best to make it stick. So far so good. I'd have been gutted to have lost my first Koi under circumstances where my actions could have avoided it.

It's all a learning curve, I think alot of people over worry and over treat.
I don't really do to much with mine haven't had any issues for years really though, if you have good water and good filters it should be alot easier.
I think if the koi is swimming around and feeding rs is bouncing back that's great.

True that you never stop learning. Kept fish for 30 years yet ailments are regularly posted on here that I've never seen before and wouldn't have a clue where to start in treating them. I'd be proper stressed out if some of these lumps, bumps and illnesses developed on my fish!

Showa is now back in the main pond and immediately settled in.

Didn't salt dip or sedate, just used one of my daughters make-up cotton pads to wipe tamodine over his scratches, dorsal area and tail as I lifted him slightly out of the bowl.

Took this video to send to the wife so its a bit long and boring as I was showing off my handywork in the garden to her and the Koi were very nervous and slow to come up for food as they always are for a few hours after seeing the blue bowl come out of the shed, but despite that the Showa still came up for food at around 1 minute into the vid..

EDIT.... A reminder of how he looked a week ago on the bottom clamped up....

Thanks mate, I think you're being too polite, even I got bored watching it lol.

Was hoping for a feeding frenzy, but they were still scared of the blue bowl. Even if they just see me carry it out the shed door they go and hide for hours.
