Ground works around pond.
Hello,
Hoping for a bit of advice. Going to be doing a large extension on the rear of the house that will involve some pretty extensive heavy groundwork's. The main work will happen about 10ft from pond. The concern I have is will the vibration from the breakers (removing existing patio and foundations) cause an adverse effect to the fish? If so I'll just buy a temp pool and move them for the days the work is being done.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

i think the stress of moving them will be more than the stress of the machinery tbh.
If when you say "patio foundation" we are just talking compacted road stone or a bed of concrete under the slabs, then it will come up with very little fuss anyway.

Mine went through this last year without any worries, as familyman says, the stress caused by moving them will be much worse than leaving them.

I have been through the same situation recently, including some very heavy pneumatic chiselling of concrete footings and slab for over a week. The fish were not spooked and showed no ill effects at all.
What do do want to prepare for is the possible loss of power or water supplies to your pond - the builders probably won't understand the need to keep everything going 24/7!
If you have a pond window I would cover this up to reduce chance of stray debris cracking the window.

Thanks for all the advice. Decision made not to move them.

i had a side extension put on the house and foundations dug out by JCB say 15 ft from the pond.Concrete then pored in, brickies working with a cement mixer etc.
None of the gang seemed bothered. I think you will be fine mate.
