Air pumps
Hi all, now you guys have helped size my air pump, what brand ?
was thinking originally of the EA95, but also seen a Charles Austin 100 or a Jeabo 100. The EA seems expensive and the Jeabo seems cheap !
Any other brand suggestions or experiences with any of the above would be appreciated.

I use these,very reliable as piston drive but a bit noisy which doesn't bother me.
Where are you in N.Wales?John

I have various EA and Jeboa, both seem fine to me, although I think the EA are more robust/heavy duty..but there are many good pumps, just depends what u want to pay..

ive either got or had, quite a few different ones, I think the best from the ones ive had, is an ea 70 L model, which has been happily turning media over for years, never missed a beat, its currently turning over 450 litres of k1 easily.

Priority for me was noise, had to be quiet. I'm using Charles Austen ET80 and it does its job well;
Guaranteed minimum 80 litres per hour (whereas others fall short of the claimed output).
Max 40dB (whereas others are noisier than their claimed dB).
Max consumption 85 watt
But comparing the ET100 and the Jebao PA100
PA100 = MAX flow 100 LPM
ET100 = Guaranteed flow 100 LPM
PA100 = Claimed 38dB
ET100 = Max 45dB
PA100 = Claimed 65 watts
ET100 = Maximum 105 watts
PA100 = £80 to £90
ET100 = £125 to £135
Based on the above, if you can accept a small shortfall in LPM, accept that power usage and claimed noise output are likely on the optimistic side, and don't mind not buying British, the Jebao appears to make most sense.
All air pumps are fairly reliable nowadays so it would be difficult to make a judgement on that, although rightly or wrongly I'd probably be more confident that the Charles Austen would outlast the Jebao. But both are likely to last many years.Last edited by RS2OOO; 24-01-2019 at 06:32 PM.

Hi John,
Its Mark here from just outside Mold, I came to meet you the year before last and see your pond. Hope you’re keeping well, we’ve had a very busy time since so pond build a bit slower than planned ! However, I’m back on it this year and hoping to have it full of water by the summer.
Thanks for the advise.
Kind regards
Mark

I had noticed the koi and prices. I went there last year, got talking to one of the staff and stated I was building a pond with bottom drain and gravity fed filtering and he looked at me blank !

Mark I wouldn't buy from waterworld,have a good look at their filters all the tanks are on the same filter even on quarantine.
I have bought their tough flexi pipe though.
Stuffyrat,I am near Queensferry where are you exactly?John

I buy from UK nishigoi in saint Helen's the fish are stunning and fair priced also the staff are great too they are happy to bowl up a few fish so you can have a good look at shape, fins ect I don't go anywhere else now it's a nice place to just go have a look, but having a look normally ends up costing me or the boss money lol

Gone for the Charles Austen ET 100, decided this was the best quality, quietest air pump at a reasonable price that hopefully will give me years of service

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
