    Profi Drum float switch protection

    Hi,

Pond had dropped a foot this morning - not a significant issue in itself to koi but the profi-drum had obviously been in a continuous cleaning cycle for a few hours. Not sure why on this occasion and I have had it happen a few times before in past few years. I do not have any mechanism at present to act as a fail safe. I am planning to speak with Darren at AK re this as I seem to remember profi doing a new control box that covers this as well as a few other things. Just not sure this is available in the UK.

Can anyone advise of what else I can do as I am not too savvy re this re what I need and how I make it work?

    Thanks so much.
    Ian.

I was thinking of doing the same thing on a QK50 drum. I thought a float switch on the dirty side that triggers a relay that makes the drum think that the low water level switch on the clean side has been triggered. I just haven't quite figured out how to achieve it. I also have a seneye sitting in the clean side that texts me if it comes out of water but by then I have lost a lot of water...
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

My kc-10 drums were about the first to come out years ago and they have 3 sensors. 1 for cleaning sensors water in dirty side. 2nd is lower and cuts power and 3rd is for an auto top up valve but not used. So i dont understand why your newer ones dont have this facility.mine is just on a relay in control box.you could fot a float switch on mains feed....andi

    Hi Ian

i have had a Profi combo drum running now or 6 months

I kept having the same issue it must have happened 10 or more times and emptied my pond by at least 20% each time.

i think my problem was that I was not getting enough water back to the filter and I was drawing to much from the filter

what didn’t help was the cut of control was faulty and had to retun the control box and have it replaced

i have just just added a 2nd wide skimmer so know have 3 x 4” pipes feeding my filter and not had one issue in the last 3 months

my my biggest concern is the motor or pump being damage from over working as it does get very warm

I would consider a low level probe a pretty essential thing to have with a drum- could you not upgrade the control panel and probes to do this? The level probes are a safer bet than a float switch IMO as float switches can potentially get stuck. Coastal Koi sell the probe set for their Aqua drums as a spare, but you would need your controller to have that functionality to use them.
