Optimum settings for a heat pump over winter.

I have just purchased and installed a second hand heat pump it is 2.8 kw in with a theoretical 15kw output. Its a standard non inverter model.

I wonder if people could advise on the optimum settings for winter operation - I assume all heat pumps have similar parameters?? Do any of these need to change if heating in spring apart from the temperature obviously?

    My current settings:-
    Temp 8 C
    Delta 0.5 (hysteresis) (default 2 C)

    Defrost cycle 30Min (default 45Min)
Coil Temp to start defrost -7 C
Coil Temp to stop defrost 13 C
    Defrost duration 10 min
Automatic water inlet temp setting - set at 15 C (def 28)??
    Target superheat 5 C??
Manual adjustment of electronic expansion valve 35 C ??
The max water temp setting in heating 25 C (def 40)??

    ?? = haven't a clue !

do you have the instruction manual ?

if we get a pro longed very cold period I have increased defrost duration, and decreased time between defrosting, because once in a while if it gets very cold it will really get frozen up solid, especially if its sucking snow or sleet through.

I have the instructions - They don't explain some of the parameters though and the defaults aren't set up for koi pond heating - more swimming pools I think. I reduced the time between defrosts to 30 min - it was originally at an hour which resulted in the thing trying to turn itself into a snowman.

Do you mind me asking what time interval and duration you use - both generally and in poor conditions?

on mine the standard time for thawing out was 8 minutes, and standard time between defrosting cycles is 45 minutes.

Its usually ok tbh on standard settings, Ive only altered it when it stays sub zero for days, I altered defrosting cycles to happen every 30 minutes, 8 minutes actually defrosting has almost always been enough, I did up it to 12 minutes once when it got really clogged up sucking in heavy snow for a few days.
