Absolutely agree 100%
That is if what we're being told by dealers about the risks they take is actually true. I believe it is true. The Dealers I've seen don't tend to be driving around in big flash cars or have big flash houses, they seem to do it for the love of the hobby rather than to get rich.
That said, going by Youtube videos even the Japanese don't outwardly appear to be wealthy or making vast amounts of money from it. It looks like hard work and long hours, and regularly the breeders doing this work look well into their 70's.
So the answer to solving these problems means spending more money, our money, but if Koi were even more expensive than they already are there'd be an even smaller market of buyers.

Big.... Big, Girl!
Sounds like your not that far away from us hull boys andi done that round myself, no mentions but some i wont return to.
Have you been to dock koi in humberston just through grimsby?
Not a palace of a place by any means but fish are cracking and well priced.
Exactly the same fish pretty much that are at coastal koi. Neil travels to japan and the same breeders with dave from coastal they both take from the same stock and have been doing that for years.

If this big girl is the same one that was in queni last year (might be 2 year ago now even) then ive seen it in the flesh theres always a few monsters at queni
I dont find queni koi to be too badly priced in all fairness and they have a good variety and good quality.

I don't think Gary is expensive for koi, just bought two more off him. The important thing is buying with piece of mind and that has been bought home big time with what Gary is going through now. I have to say I do like omosako shiro's but your Hoshiki looks nice :-)

im in wakefield lee,not been to neils YET lol but its on the cards,i dont mind travelling to places for a look round,if im made welcome, maybe the offer of a cuppa and a chat, although i dont like to be shadowed or pushed when im somewhere either haha,we bought a new lazyboy sofa last year £4500 and the salesman we were dealing with was great,me an our lass in our scruff but he made us feel welcome and we had a laugh and he was down to earth,i told him we needed to think so he left us alone, next i see this young upstart manager telling him to get back in and get a sale,he comes back over and were sat on sofa chatting and we tell him we will take it,just then manager comes over and sits down and starts harping on about what a great sofa it is and what colour did we want and we can have it for this date if we order now, really pushy, the salesman looked at me and sort of apologised in his look as we had already told him we wanted it and paying cash, then manager said after looking at us both in our weekend best lol " we do have cheaper sofas available if you cant afford this one,we can even probably get you finance to spread the payments for your budget" that was his big mistake and our lass looked mortifiedas she knew what was coming, one thing i hate is judgy people,so i turned to salesman and just raised my voice a little and said "this guys your manager correct" he said yes and a few other customers looked over at the raised voice,so i continued "well before he came over we had already said we were taking this full set didnt we and we had agreed we were paying it all off now didnt we" he nodded, manager looks nervous, i continued, more people now looking," well if you dont get rid of the pushy little upstart that thinks we cant afford a sofa because of the way we are dressed your about to lose this sale, and dont worry as i will be getting straight onto head office when i get home to inform them how good at your job you are and how their new appointed manager conducts himself with customers" he looked at me as if to say shit i cant tell him to go away,so i looked at manager and just said" you still here you need to get lost" ive never seen a guy get up and walk away so embarrassed in my life with everyone watching as he vanished into his office, and with that we paid and had a laugh with salesman and he thanked us for saying what he wanted to but couldnt lol, andi

Big.... Big, Girl!
Ha ha i hate that too mate. Im not a big head at all but i dont do bad for myself. My usual attire is joggers and a soft shell jacket with trainers oh and i also have a grufty face going on too as hate shaving but its amazing the amount of Wnkrs out there who look down on you for the way you look.
I was once in halfords near us just browsing for some car cleaning bits when i noticed 2 staff members one either end of the isle watching me like a hawk. Anyways one comes down the isle and asks if he can help me, so i jokily said no thanks but you can help by having a bit of trust and letting me just shop for what i came for. He then asked if i could open my jacket to show there was nothing in it well that didn’t go down well at all. Words of excuse me? And some others And then him asking me to leave the store came along. Long story short i demanded to speak to the store manager. Who was ok to be fair but was adamant it wasn’t a judgemental thing from his employees. I just turned and said don’t worry i will never ever come into this store or any other halfrauds again, and if you watch me drive away to my own house out if town in a nice village, the car im driving is probably worth more than your years salary and was bought pretty much in full so ram your overpriced store you judgemental P**ck. I’m not normally like that but i thought nah sod it, worked hard for what ive got and i aint having a snotty store manager and staff talk to me like im off to walk back to my cardboard box down the road.
Anyways... you will definitely find dock koi (neils) place ok then mate, always a cuppa on offer, will chat to you about anything for hours if you want to. Never ever felt like im been pushed or forced to buy, says it how it is too neil which i like.
Like i say its not the fanciest or biggest of places but never judge a book by its cover

That's a different fish unfortunately coming in at a measly 66cm!
However, looking at the web page there are some good bargains there, particularly like the 85cm Hi Utsuri at £1995, but there's also some eye wateringly high prices on Koi that to me aren't that attractive... The £6000 speckled showa doesn't do anything for me.... but what do I know.
Here's the page:

Ha ha i was going to say lol nearly got on the blower queni then to reserve that chag until i opened up and noticed its not the meter long whale one as shown earlier lol
Is some nice fish there but as has been said above too theres some eye watering pricing which in my opinion is a cheeky bid purely on the size of them. To look at not that special imo. I would rather have a nice looking showa at 60cm even if it stayed there over a wrecked looking 80cm odd but thats just me.

as i buy koi i like the look of and the fact i have no idea what a good koi looks like, most of mine are mutts, also also buy a lot of peoples cast offs when they havent turned out like they thought they would,im the guy that buys the koi with one eye and 2 fins missing that swims round in a 3 foot circle from where its put in pond, cos i feel sorry for it,or the one with a deformed mouth that everyone calls slurpy lol, years ago i kept ferrets, like every yorkshireman should lol,and took an albino that was going to be put down as it had a back issue,it wasnt in pain but it had to walk with its front legs then sort of hop its back legs to catch up,we called it slinky as thats what the whole movement looked like, even entered it and won some awards in the disabled ferret catagory at some shows, very misunderstood creatures thanks to the richard whitely incident, andi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9xHEj3Gk4Q
