Can anyone explain to me about sensor on a drum

All I want to know is the better the flow through the drum the lower you set the sensor that triggers a clean

Not really - the flow through the drum can be considered constant given the flow generated by your pump - height of water level sensor only triggers cleaning when defined water level is reached.

Lower sensor position = more frequent drum cleaning with lighter drum due to lower water volume inside when turning during cleaning cycle.

Higher sensor position = less frequent drum cleaning, but heavier drum = bigger load for drum motor to turn it

Have a read of the manual and set to up to what they recommend, then you know it is operating correctly.

Are you sure about that - mine doesn't work that way - are you pump fed ??

for my gravity fed drum the lower the sensor the less frequent the cleaning cycle. It takes longer for the level in the clean side to reduce enough to trigger a clean.

As as you turn the flow up obviously the cleaning cycle will trigger more often as the screens will block faster. In addition if you have any restriction on the input side - e.g only one 4" input then the starting level/ dirty side level will be lowered at high flows so this will also trigger more frequent cleaning cycles.

I have found with my set up that having just added a third 4" feed has resulted in a much slower clean rate (over 30 min) and this should allow me to raise the sensor position. Raising the sensor can also essentially increase the effective bio capacity of any gravity attached bio chamber.

    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Yes - I am pump fed in my setup - so in gravity fed it might work the opposite as water level sensor is installed upside down and in clean not dirty side.

But as for the flow through the drum this is functon of incoming water flow / volume plus resistence of SST mesh surface it flows through and does not depend really on sensor installation height.

Pip is correct for a gravity fed system. Milaz is correct for a pump fed system.
