Koinewbie.
Nice cover. What have you got growing in your shower? Have you noticed anything different by adding the plants?

Hi Jase the plant is called mind your own business & I planted it to soften the look of the shower but also to reduce nitrate. I've seen a big reduction in my nitrate since fitting my shower earlier in the year & also with the plants but it's probably a combination of the two?. Don't know if the plants will survive the winter under cover but im hoping so. It's 25mm clear polycarbonate so let's the light in but we will see. If not will replant from new when the covers come off.

Thanks , it should survive the winter can be an invasive plant though.

I was tempted to just reply MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.
But didn't know if it would have been taken well?.

It's every time too . As soon as anyone walks out the back door it's like a cartoon character doing a double take through the window.

my pond stands a meter above ground and a meter below ground, every winter I wrap the above ground meter in 3 layers of twin wall foiled bubble wrap, ive taken the temperature difference on a frosty morning between outside air temp and the temp behind the insulation, it makes a huge difference, the difference in temperature was into double figures.
I wrap all pipes, the sheds insulated and the filters and bio chamber in the shed are insulated again, because I dont want to pay to heat the shed, the ceiling above the pond is triple wall polycarb with flat sheets of polystyrene on top of that, and from the pond wall to the ceiling is all done in triple wall poly carb, its completely enclosed all year round, apart from the rare occasions when the temps are high for prolonged periods.
My heat pump is way undersized, its a dura plus 7 on 5500 gallons, but even now it will hold my pond at 24 c easily, and thats down entirely to thermal efficiency.

Hi Lee you can't see on the pics but it's slightly raised in the centre so runs off the sides. If it snows then I will brush it off.

Some impressive well made covers on this thread!
I've been debating how to go around this problem seeing as I already have a security cover on my pond....

Had a brain wave today.... Gonna save myself a few pennies and bubble wrap the mesh cover. Just bought 100 metres of the stuff for £8 !

Dont see why that wont work mate just may have to lift at one edge from time to time to run off any pooling as no matter how tight you get the bubble wrap it will find a way to pool up.
The covers you can buy are only like bubble wrap backed tarpaulin so insulation wise it will be the same, it just wont have the tension strength thats all.

interestingly I turned my heat pump off on Friday night with the pond water temp at 15 c , so now 3 days later with no heat at all, the water temp is still 14.5 c and yet the ambient air temps here have been well below that for the whole period.

Are you sure its definitely switched off?
That's quite incredible considering we've had a couple of early morning ground frosts over the last week and daily temps not really pushing above 7C.
I'm in South East and pond has been as low as 4C, currently nudging over 6C.
