Just a thought re new ponds. I started my new pond with anoxic filtration in place both in a sump and in the pond itself which helped keep the ammonia down to zero so I am an advocate. It may be an idea to invest in, and although you may not want to keep the anoxic filtration for the longer term perhaps a few baskets early on would help to bypass some pond start up problems. For those with deep ponds a few baskets over the side of the pond in a mesh bag would do the job. Actually a mesh bag full of "Danish Pink" with startegically placed balls (use the feet of a pair of tights) of the active ingredient (laterite or similar) would do, and, keep costs low.

Come to think of it I could use that method when I come to replace my sump baskets in a few years time!
