QT heating
Hi, im in need of a bit of advice, ive ripped out my old wood framed QT after a small leak, ive bought a new 500g ez pond vat, and was just wondering with heating is it more energy efficient to have a smaller heater on a lot of the time or a larger wattage one on for a short amount of time? Also any recommendations for a good submersible heater?

For that size tank you'll probably need a heater like this (the 600 watt version) -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCHEGO-TI...72.m2749.l2649
And you will need a controller something like this -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Have a look on Freddyboy's build thread as he advised me which heater to go for.
Just out of interest where did you get your tank from, how long did it take to be made and delivered and how much did it cost you? I'm in the process of setting up a QT and am currently trying to get some answers on the tank itself.
PM me if you don't want to put details on here.

Thanks buddy! I did a search on here for "heater" and Freddyboy's build came up, im 1/2 way through reading it at the moment.
I had 2 200w heaters on my last one but they was on quite a bit of the time even when it was covered but im thinking a more powerful heater than just comes on not as often (as long as the heat doesnt escape too much) it would be more cost effective.
I was looking about for ages for a tank, looking on ebay at used ones but the cheapest new one was from EZ-POND im getting the 500g with graded base and bottom drain, i think they are around birmingham area but dropping mine off on the way back from the all england, i think he said that delivery is usually about 150 to venture south and this time of year they get them done pretty quick

QT heating
To be more energy efficient, you need to fully insulate your tank & plumbing, for your Qt, include a good lid too, then it matters not a jot about the size of the heater, my air pump warms the tank, & I’m running an aquarium heater 500watt (300 Gallons) without breaking the bank!
INSULATE FIRST.

hi mate frim covered it. yes I use a
Shego 600w titanium heater. and put it in my easy pod. there quite good. pretty cheap. plus controller as frim has quoted. I think my qt build starts about page 39 on a computer. on a phone I aint got a clue. agree you need it insulating. I don't have a lid on my tank. how I counter this is I put my shed heater on a timer to be hotter then the room tempreture in the shed. so in a nutshell it runs 4 hours on 4 hours off in winter.
and it keeps the condensation on the ceiling and walls away. hope this helps fred

Thanks Fred. How have you mounted yours in the pod?

it came with 2 x suckers. but as time has gone on. the suckers come away. so I have put electric tape around the cable on the outside of the pod and run it to my waste out let. this stops it dropping on to plastic and burning.
when I get round to it. I will sealent the suckers grabber inside the pod.

I have had mine in there for 2 years now. no problems. with the elec tape on the outside it acts like rope and keeps it tight. just a couple of raps around the cable before it enters the pod. pulled tight to the waste and a couple of turns around the waste holds it. the suckers only come of now and again.out side chamber the heater goes

Its the bio film mate. It stops it clinging. I have explained how i got around it. If you have had an aquarium tank. You should know this anyway.
Sealent the suckers before you fill it up for the first time. Easy peasy.

What you want is a few beers to see that off Fred or a double Brandy. Both are medicinal so don't worry about what time of day it is just go for it

Maybe as we discussed via PMs screw or nut and bolt it to the outside of the metal chamber that holds the K1. I've just checked the inside of my Eazy Pod that's empty and the join in the metal section is in a perfect place to mount the heater to as you can probably just drill the rivets out one by one and replace them with SS nuts and bolts by the looks of things. Could also be an option to use longer bolts to space the heater out so it's sitting in the middle of the gap between the metal section and the outside of the Eazy Pod so it gets more of an even flow past it if that makes sense?
Can anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work or why you wouldn't do it that way?

Like it Fred, I see what you mean now about the tape lol
At the end of the day the heater comes with plastic or rubberised clips so if it does come unstuck would it actually be capable of melting through the side of the Eazy Pod that's full of water?
I know it will look better and it's belt and braces to fix it to something a bit more heat resistant etc. but I'd still be looking to go for it anyway just to see how easy it is to get the parts and make it all fit together.
Something like this for the clamps -

or maybe this -

Obviously need to check the correct size to fit the heater. Then just get some long enough SS bolts and some SS nuts and washers.
