I'm giving up the hobby
After much thought and consideration I've decided now is the right time for me to close down my pond after 4 fairly short years. The straw that broke the camel's back was last week I found a few significant cracks around the pond window and a leak. I asked David Familyman if he wouldn't mind popping to take a look seeing as he's a good friend and a builder.
So without draining down the pond and doing excavations it seems that all this hot weather has dried out the ground enough to cause some movement and possibly breaking the seal around the window or damaging the fibreglassing. I've had a couple generous offers of help to try and sort it but I've just had enough of throwing piles of cash down the drain.
Not a easy decision as I'm genuinely going to lose thousand of pounds on koi and equipment but at least this has happened before I spend thousands more on filter upgrades and finishing of the pond with some sort of roof.
I'll be photoing all my koi and posting another for sale thread on here and other social media. So if your after some decent fairly high quality Japanese koi at a fraction of koi dealers prices here's a chance. Once all the koi have gone it will be equipment and filters.
I just wanted to say thanks for the help and friends I've made on here.

Genuinely gutted for you buddy what with this and all the hassles you’ve been through recently!
It was only on Saturday when Dave popped round to mine to have a look what I needed to get to finish my path round my pond that I asked if he’d heard from you recently and he told me he’d been round to have a look at your problem!
Wish there was something we could do to help ya!

This is very bad news, so sorry
It must have been very tough decision to make. Are you absolutely sure that you won't regret this some time down the line? It seems a great shame to throw in the towel when you've created such a nice pond and collected such lovely fish.
If you don't mind me asking, where abouts are the cracks? Are they in the blocks or the brick facing course or both?2016 new 6000 gallon pond

I'm not a 100% sure either way Dave. Familyman ( David ) thought once the ground conditions returned to normal after a winter say the gaps might close up somewhat but it's taken the shine off the hobby after all the hard work and cash.

I don't think the pond is in any immediate trouble by any means and is probably repairable. A couple of the facing bricks are cracked in half and there's a good 5 mm gap all the way along. I just feel I've got better things to spend my cash on now then worrying about koi.

Hi Adam, tough decision to make, but I can understand it.
Like many of us I have spent thousands on the hobby, and hours of work maintaining, and improving. But it does seem at times hard work, and stressful. Worry about being away from the pond, those late at night problems/equipment failures (flexible joints coming off!) parasites, blanket weed, blocked filters etc etc..despite all this I still enjoy it, and nothing like watching content, healthy fish on a summers evening..but I have been close to jacking it in, and spending time and money elsewhere..
I'm sure you'll sell your fish and gear quickly..cheers

Hi. Adam sorry to hear of your problems,If I were you before giving up the hobby,I would take a good look at the pond structure the picture you put up shows some damp,Now I am Not a fan of window's in pond's,I would remove the brick's and see if the window is the problem,If it is I would fill the window in and renew the brick's you would have removed, and go from their,When you built the pond did you build the pond your self if so did you put a footihg in with rebar then poored concrete in and a concrete base with rebar, if so the hot weather should not affected the base as long as the wall's are 9in thick it should be ok and that bring's me back to the Window I hope you investigate, it might not as bad as you think. All the Best
Steve.

I appreciate the advice but I'm over it Steve. If anyone can learn anything from my build pictures here you go ( or not how to do it ).
I plan on having some pictures up of my koi for people to look at and hopefully buy this weekend.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
