Thread: UV bulbs

    UV bulbs

Is any specific brand better than others for replacement bulbs.

My EA 110 doesn't appear to be pulling it's weight anymore, but to be fair I have never changed the bulbs and it's probs about 3 year old.

I try to only buy Phillips or Osram bulbs for standard UV units because there are loads of quite crap cheap copies on the market and you really can't tell whether they are any good or not (until your pond goes green that is anyway). You may get lucky or not when buying from Fleabay etc.

I have read before that they need changing every season or 6 months, but if it's still keeping the water clear why change it?

The ballast broke again and it took a week to get a new one and with all the sun it didn't take long to go green. I'm maybe being impatient for it to clear again but I do admit the bulbs are old so I guess I might as well change them.

If your water is still clear then then keep using it, when it comes to replacing the lamp you will get what you pay for!! So if you want it to last osram or Phillips is what I buy
