Saki Hikari versus...?
Hi,
Just about to run out of SH. I know this has been covered before. Don't have show koi but still want to feed them quality food. In terms of best value for money, I suspect my investment in SH is unlikely to be giving me greater benefits than a high quality but cheaper brand.
Just looking for suggestions really. I currently have little or no waste from SH in pond so don't want something that goes straight through the fish!
Many thanks.
Ian.

Coppens/Queni koi foods are good at the price in particular the ultimate mix and wheatgerm. Stay away from there sinking range though.
I am currently using Kusuri premium bought in 15 kg sacks to make it more affordable. I like the ingredients in the food and the koi seem to be doing well on it with little waste. I get mine off Darren.

I previously used Kusuri but switched to a more affordable food. As my fish are big now I’m not so focused on growth. The Kusuri food does however have some really good ingredients compared to a lot of other foods, I would therefore recommend it.

Hey Chris, like most Koi food it gets far cheaper the larger bag's you buy it in. Absolute koi sell kusuri premium 15kg in any pellet size for £79.99. some places sell it for well over £100.

I absolutely love Medikoi food, I've fed it to my fish for years, and literally nothing comes out the other end of them and despite only feeding them health, they grow like mad on it. We bought 4 x 4inch very thin fish a month ago and they are now 4 x 8 inch very chunky fish. I actually looked at the remaining fish at the shop today to see if there was anything else I liked and they were incredibly small and thin, you wouldn't believe they are the same brood.
10kg can be had for £75.

I switched (not completely) from saki to queni koi/coppens ian. On the price front its a remarkable saving over SH and if im honest ive no difference in growth rate or colours
I tried aqua source last year, fish didnt mind it but it trashed my water when feeding comparable amounts to other brands. In small amounts it was fine but once i ramped up the feed i suffered with clarity issues. That was the high growth and colour food.
For years ive fed hikari foods and never had any issues but even the standard hikari staple is as expensive as saki hikari its just too high a price. My fish aint show winners and never going to be coppens is fine and what that doesnt have all the treats do ha ha mussels and cockels are my crews favourites

Same as Lee here Ian,fed coppens from q/k the Jap mix for a few years now but have just ordered the q/k ultimate mix at £86 for 15 kg delivered next day so see how that goes.
Used s/h for a while before coppens and it is very good but i cant justify the price.John

This thread has got me interested in this Queni Food, but looking at their range I can't make out the real differences between much of it.
What would Queni users recommend and why?
(Sorry, thread hijack)

I’ve just switched to queni Koi growth as my Fish have grown enough and I’m not looking for fast growth now, so just wanted a food to keep them ticking over, but still growing slowly. I got 15kg for £46.50 at the Bkks show and cant get any food near this price for the amount. Seems good and the fish really like it but I am getting a lot more foam on top of the water unfortunately.
Cheers Chris
