    Surface disturbance

    Hi Guys,

I've managed to finally get my air domes balanced so they both come back on after their rest periods and don't pulse.

But I'm now back to an old problem.

I want the air as low as possible as the air lift effect is stronger than the pull from my filters and has just been circulating all the flocculated algae around my pond.

So, I've dropped the air as low as I think I can go with it, but would like your input as to how it should look on the surface, as you can't post videos on here, and photos don't really shoe things accurately.

At the moment the disturbance from the air travels out and covers about 60 to 80% of my pond surface, obviously just gentle ripples beyond the centre with just gentle bubbles coming up in the centre, not like a jacuzzi like it was originally.

Can anyone describe in words or even give me a video link to how it should be.

    Cheers,

    Jay

Ah, I think I've turned mine down lower than that Andi.

I need to get an o2 test kit and keep a check that way.

    Cheers Andi.

Andi, a moronic question, but does the airation in the nexus count towards the airation in the pond?

Course it does you moron lol.you asked for a moron ic answer haha.as your aerating the water in nexus then this then travels into pond.andi

Ha ha ha. I asked for that. Lol.

But it won't have the same effect as the air domes though will it, as it's about surface area and gas exchange, and there isn't a great deal of surface area in the Nexus?

What youve got to think is your aerating the water molecules as they pass through nexus the taking that air into pond.its not about the bubbles you can see.its the aerated water you cant.andi

If you're thinking about gas exchange, the surface of several thousand bubbles will be massively greater than the surface area of your pond. Surface disturbance is only really relevant if you don't have bubbles suspended in the water column.

So I could get away with just aerating the filters then?

It's all about gas exchange though, nothing to do with the actual air you pass through the water, look at how the japs aerate their mud ponds, they just beat the water with a fan, just creates gas exchange.

Well ive been informed that i should only putting 20lpm through my spindrifter instead of the 40lpm i was.but then ive read it can take 80lpm.andi

Was, past tense, so does that mean you will only put 20 through when you start up again?

Is that pic you posted of 40lpm?

I'm thinking of buying two Jebao PA60's, 65lpm pumps, the ones you recommended, and then I can vent off anything not needed.

Some how increasing the gap, effectively raising the height of the air dome by 10mm max has absolutely screwed the balance between the two domes, so I'm getting fed up.

As these pumps only say they work at 2m, I'm going higher power just in case they don't have the guts, as the EA pumps I have are very powerful.

I asked the company I git my BDs off and they said they would take 150lpm if I wanted, and I have run that amount through each of them without any problems. When the 150 is split between the two the air only comes out of the centre few inches, doesn't stress the membrane at all.

I keep balancing both lines and then next time they have their break one of them doesn't come back on, it's driving me crazy. Definitely time to go down the two pump route.
