    Koi fostering????

Hi all, my pond seems to have developed a leak... I have six koi, each around a foot long, that I'd like to temporarily re-home for a while whilst I fix the leak and possibly do some more work on and around the pond...
I'm in the Brentwood, Essex area and thought I'd put the feelers out...
    Any takers? 😀

truth is its a big risk for any body, because of what they could be introducing in to their pond, and thats no reflection on you by the way, but even fish from reputable dealers that have been quarantined, will usually still bring with them some unwanted nasties.

Thanks FamilyMan. Yes, I thought that could be the case. It's just that I'm reluctant to give them away permanently, (particularly as my kids probably wouldn't forgive me!) but may have to go down that route...then maybe get some tiddlers...

If you think you can fix the leak fairly quickly, given current temps, you could give them a little holiday in a temporary pool; ranging from a fairly decent/rigid kids paddling/swimming pool to something more substantial from Aquosis:

Aquosis Midi 60 - Aquosis Show Vats - Absolute Koi

You’d have to pondvac and depending on what filter you have, perhaps re-run some pipework, provide some air & cover/shade - a bit of pre-planning on the ‘fix’ and you could have them back home without too much aggravation!

Thanks for the replies - appreciate the advice. I considered the temp pool option, but I back onto a forest and so foxes and badgers etc. are an ever-present threat...! Also, I'm really not sure how long they'll be out. My koi are also at the point where their size is at - or maybe over - what the pond should take; my pond is around 6,500l/1,500g (built 2010) and I feel with six Koi that are now at/over a foot long, I'm maybe pushing it for their welfare...?

What about as a temporary set up use an IBC and strap a lid or net to the top of it to stop anything getting at them when you're not around? If you are thinking it may be too small you could go for 2 IBCs? Just need to make sure they're well shaded and have a decent enough filtration system and air etc. Most places that sell fish have got a lot more than 6 x 12" Koi in them for a reasonably long length of time and they do OK.
