    How To Grow Big Koi

Ok, so I'm new to Koi keeping. For all I know these old videos could be well known and posted many times before, or you might consider them rubbish.

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed watching them and learned a few things along the way so I hope you find them interesting.

This guy grows young Koi to 24" in a 890 US Gallon (3300 litre) overstocked pond and explains how he does it.

I've recently bought three 10 Month old Tosai which are just 10cm long.... I used to achieve that length in 2 Months with Fancy Goldfish in 4 foot room temperature tanks, hence my google search where I stumbled across these videos.

    How to grow big koi:

1 good water with lots of water changes preferably constant trickle

    2 warm water, approx 22c

3 good quality food, feed small portions regularly

    4 not over crowded

Temperature probably had a lot to do with your fish's growth rate I would think.

Warmer water means more active fish, more active fish means they'll need to eat more to replenish their energy and as a result build strength in the process, bigger stronger fish will eat more and so the process continues or something along those lines anyway.

i think almost all koi will go 60 cm plus regardless of genetics, if given the right conditions, and thats pretty easy in 2 years for most.

Reminds me of the old joke,

"How do you make a small fortune in football?"

"Start with a big fortune and buy a football club"

    ... i'll get my coat.

I think Good Genetics is more essential than overcrowding. My pond is overstocked but all my fish came from excellent breeders in Japan, all are a good size (majority at or over 2 feet in length) but I have a lot of filtration, plus water changes to get rid of hormones and pheromones in the water - these will stunt growth.
