Pond Builders....
Hi all, I can’t believe how hard it is to find a preffesional pond builder! Lots of landscaper gardeners about advertising pond building but when you have a chat they don’t have a clue on what a bottom drain or a skimmer is...
Any one got any suggestions on recommendations for pro builders in Berkshire?
Cheers,
Jim

If you know exactly what you want and also know how to arrange the drains and through wall piping, then any builder/bricky worth his salt will easily build what you want.
My builders had never built a pond before but with me telling them on a daily basis, (probably too much) I ended up with exactly what I wanted and more.
If you want a rectangular pond, then that is the easiest task for a builder, mine was curved, but to them is was still very easy.....you have to remember that They build intricate houses normally! Just give them all the info they need and you will end up with what you want, I'm sure.

That’s my main issue, I have someone who can build the walls etc but I need someone who can design it and where all the pipes etc go.
I’m a simple office worker and this kind of work fills me with dread! I’d found a pond builder who advised he could project manage it and do all the pipes etc but since then not heard back from him!!

Try this guy : 07845 816634
i know hes busy in the South of France shortly with a build, but after that may be able to help you out.
I can recommend his work.
Worth having a chat with him at least.
Thanks

Are there any resources online regarding pond flow patterns? I have googled them but all i can find is flow rates and patterns through filters, as opposed to the pond itself.
Obviously where the returns go have a significant impact on how effective the bottom drain is.
Is would be good to see something showing the flow direction etc from TPR's as opposed to central returns or even straight side returns.
And also drain position. Is it best to have the drain dead centre or slightly toward one end (the opposite end to the returns)

Are there any koi suppliers or aquatic stores near you ?
They`re always worth asking , and usually know someone who can help you out .
Its always worth doing a bit of research on pond building yourself - even if you don't do the build . Its good to have an idea what you want and how its built . Loads of info on here , just have a look at some of the pond construction threads . Also , try to visit any local koi keepers , if you know any , who will be able to advise you .
It`ll be better if you can get someone with pond building experience , if you can , rather than a regular builder , as they`ll be used to dealing with any possible issues - such as water ingress ect .
Good luckColin
