Agree with Fred,i would keep the five in the tank as i would think it maybe too much too move them out at this time of the year.

I would be dropping the temp now as much as i can in the tank before Thurs, what i have done in similar circumstances is put the sick one in a large inspection bowl with pond water and heated that with a small tank heater to bring the temps up to near the tank then in it goes, this was a matter of life or death not what i would normally do but it worked ok.
If you havnt got a heater put some warm tank water in the bowl to get the temp as near as possible, mind i dont know what the tank temp is.

Agree john. Some times there aint any choice mate. The warmth for healing is the key. Thats the start.

Also why i moved my fish over. Was i new because my poorly fish where large. My ammonia and nitrite would go through the roof. My tank had only been set up a few months.
Filters was not mature enough. But now. Haha. I could put a whale in there.

    1365 grams at 0.3 is 1365 for 100 gallons
Double it for 0.6 for 100 gallons.

So yours is half full at 50 gallons
    Say 680 grams at 0.3
Yes mate you will need salt tester.
    Especially if your changing water.

Hiya... very much between a rock and a hard place.

I would be very nervous of moving the fish that are in the tank into a much colder pond, Its a recipe to potentially cause problems for all in the pond.

Going up temp wise is (in my book) a load safer than dropping down. and personally I am pretty relaxed if temps are within 4 or even 5C upwards.

The big issue you will have is whether the tank and more importantly the filtration on it can deliver stable, decent quality , water . What you do not want is ammonia or nitrite spikes. Not sure how long it has been running, what the filtration comprises, how big the fish in there are, or how big the sick fish is but in 100gallons I think that will be the biggest challenge. In 50gallons you compound the difficulty as you double the pollutants at a stroke.

One thing that I would be pretty sure of, you do not want to feed the fish. Great temptation as we tend to use feeding as a measure of happiness but as soon as you add feed a slight slope becomes a steep mountain in terms of pollution produced.

No easy solutions, its a place where as koi keepers we have to make a considered call and have no regrets in deciding on a course of action..

Tommy, did you see this chart? I posted it for you two weeks ago and you said thank you. Too much Christmas spirit perhaps?

There you go Tommy as per Mankys recommendation,as Fred said if 0.3% you want 1365 gms for 100gals,top up to 100gals slowly and adding s/t to dechlorinate so that will drop the temp and add salt in doses over a few days mixing in the water to dissolve first before adding and get him in there, then start bringing the heat up.

When you cleaned the filters, did you remove the media? I'm not sure how these Cubes work or indeed whether they are mechanical filters or bio or both. Nor do i know how they are cleaned. Despite my ignorance, i would suggest, if it's possible, remove all the media when you clean them.

I don't mean remove the media every time you clean but certainly on this occasion.

Hi all...well I transferred all the fish to the main pond today and put the poorly chag in the warm tank with salt...all the fish in the pond seem happy swimming about with the others...the chag seemed stressed when I first put it in the tank, but seems to have chilled & swimming about ok...don't know if it was the salt or going from cold to warm water...but before I put it in the tank I did notice 3 white spots on its belly all cose to each other gonna pop back in garage and check on her soon... sorry Manky I didn't understand the chart...but I do now thanks
Thanks everyone for your help & fingers crossed they all do well

Hi Andre..I think its a bit like a bubblebead...I have to connect my airline and upset the media to release all the waste and then flush it....yeah I took all the media out twice this year as there was this brownish small gunky water that kept coming to the top everytime I cleaned the filters and re filled...there was always a small round patch at the top of the filter.

    Hi all
I purchased one of these, but after going on youtube and watching it, does anyone know if this will be ok for koi tank or just marine.
    Thanks

I wouldn't like to say either way. If its for a marine tank then the green zone for sea creatures won't be the same for koi. So be wary of that.

Can you put a buddy koi in with the chagoi? He'll do better with a buddy by all accounts.

Hi all..well its been over 5 months now & the chag picked up a bit for a few days and now it seems to be sulking on the bottom again in the quarantine.. I have no idea what is wrong with it, no marks on it..done scrapes twice... his buddy fish in there seems to be thriving
