parasites
Have any of you recognised or seen different symptoms on your fish, from different parasites ?, or are all symptoms the same for all parasites.
I'm convinced something is amiss in my pond still but I cant find anything.
My main reason for thinking this is just simply loss of appetite, and perhaps the fish are a little lethargic, but confusingly no flashing

Perhaps they're sick of being netted and scraped
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they aren't.

yes nitrite is absolute zero John.
Well I guess strictly speaking Adam yes I did, but Ive found only 1 costia, from maybe 15 scrapes over the past 2 weeks or so, and I feel like you will always find something if you look hard enough, yes im sure if I have found 1, then there will be more, but at the minute I doubt that's the cause of the problem, and is that enough to justify a treatment......I would think maybe not?

How do you top up your pond??
Does the water cone through a carbon filter or if it does is it working correctly??

My view is that if there is nothing to fix then the best option is to sit on your hands, change water and don't feed, I would look at such a strategy being one that I would commit to for a period of at least a fortnight, with no cheating to see if they are "more eager" if I throw in a few pellets....
It is very easy to start to get paranoid and introduce over a fairly short period a cocktail of chemicals all of which will have some short term impact on the fish and the eco balance of the system, as a combination the impact is probably compounded...
Personally , the one thing I would possibly consider is Pond Detox from Lincolnshire Fish Health, it is a clay of sorts and is claimed to help bind some of the pollutants that may have been introduced, Ive used it on occasions when in a similar position to the one you are in, cant say whether the product or the other measures caused success but it does tend to fit with the strategy of getting the water right and giving the fish a rest..

Thanks Dave,
I don't understand though, why no feeding ?, currently they will at least eat something in the evening.
Are we just trying to get the water as good as possible, and zero food will help that ?
I did a big water change on Saturday 10 days after fx1 fluke treatment and trickle in / out is going again now, at a slightly higher flow than before, I would think 30 percent per week at its current flow rate.

If the fish are not interested in feed they are telling you something..
In the absence of a positive cause on the fish you have to start to look at the environment ie the water, the starting point in exploring this is to get the water parameters as good as you can both in terms of diluting out and chemical pollutants created from the treatments you have added but also to get ammonia and nitrite down to absolute minimal levels.
It may not provide the solution but when things don't appear right we all like to do something as we care for our babes, this strategy is a positive "doing something" .

I am far from being an expert on this subject David, but i would thoroughly agree with Davej.
This year i have done nothing with mine,i have watched a few sulking on the bottom a few flashing for a week or two going off their food etc,but they have all pulled through and bounced back.
So in other words i havnt caught any for scrapes etc so no stress on them.
They seem healthier than they have ever been so right or wrong i am going to continue leaving them alone.
I used to get ulsers and cuts but none of that now but if they did get an ulser that would be a different matter.
Didnt the last treatment [ cant remember the name ] not do anything?John

I'm convinced there are loads of ailments our fish get that we know nothing about - I had something that effected nearly all my fish one after another, lasted a couple of days to a week before clearing up. I reckon it was probably viral like a common cold - If I pulled a fish out and scraped I would undoubtedly have found something to blame but any parasite treatment I used wouldn't have helped the original problem at all, and might have made things much worse.
I would do as Dave suggests - though I would be tempted to just drastically reduce the feed rather than stop it altogether, so I could better monitor how they were getting on.6000g in ground koi pond
+3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Are you heated? If not, If they are feeding in the evening but not the morning, it might be the overnight temperature swing making them unhappy. After some fairly warm days the temperature has been plummeting overnight.
Is your pH stable? Morning to Evening?

I think the truth is David ( familyman ) has been over feeding them Cheerios in a bid to get maximum growth for the grow and show. They have simply had enough and refuse anymore.
True story, honestly.
