X-Clear Fish Feeder
Hi chaps, any got the x-clear fish feeder?
I got one at the weekend from Amazon and had problems with it. Any movement however slight releases pellets from it. It doesn't close at the bottom and therefore a bit of wind and my pond has a 100g or so dumped into it. Ive spoken to the manufacturers in Holland and not getting anywhere.

Yes it's secure enough. It drops food even when filling for some reason. I'm about to do a video to send to X-Clear. The black motor part is open with a gap and the food seems to rest on it until the rotor arm goes round, so any small movement releases food.

I'm using either 4mm or 6mm Saki Hikari in the unit.
I've just done a short video

It really isn't an issue for me it is only a few pellets and I can always hold the lid underneath whilst filling to stop them falling into the pond.
Apologies if I am being critical but I would not call that fixed securely. You have the arm screwed into a piece of 12mm? board by the looks of it and unless you have it braced at the back that is just going to flex and move. I have mine fixed to a 4 x 4" pergola post.

Not a problem with your observations - it isn't flexing visibly, but it is a temporary arrangement as I'm rebuilding in three weeks. When filling it's still a major issue for me as quite a bit comes out.

They need very solidly fixing to a secure structure. Mine is bolted to the filter house wall. Yes, it will drop some food when you fill it (particularly if you have allowed it to actually be empty). If I really didnt want the fish to get this food then I would do as shkoi says and put the lid or a bucket under it whilst filling.
The only time mine drops food when I dont want it to is when one of my cats stupidly tried to climb on the lid on route to the filter house roof. They have now stopped doing that since once up there they cannot get down without risking falling into the pond
I used to have a Profi feeder and it had all the same characteritics. This type of feeder are the best on the market though IMO, and I've owned a few feeders LOL.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

You can see from the video that quite a bit falls out when filling however...and it will be fitted to a timber wall once the pond is rebuilt in three weeks which is being built with timber that is 25cm thick.

One other thing that occurred to me on your video- the feeder needs to be completely vertical. On your video it looks to be angled slighly downhill, but could just be the angle of the film. I dont think mounting it to something that can flex like that will work at all well.
When you out the lid on, dont just push it down until it clicks, pinch the 2 sides where the tab is between your fingers to click them closed and it won't vibrate your feeder. Also make sure the feeder is pushed down solidly into the hoop (best done empty before installation) so there is no movement between the feeder and its bracket.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Thanks I think you're right that it is angling slightly, I did think this, but it is fastened straight, I thought it was the design of the unit.

I got 2 of these feeders and can't fault them. Did you leave the plate in the bottom? I do gave some pellets drop in when filling. It it's usually less than a handful which is soon gone. I had some stainless steel brackets made for mine as wasn't keen on the plastic arms that came with it.

The plate in the bottom - I think you mean the plastic one that is for pellets under 4mm? As my pellets are 4mm I haven't used it and I've also tried the 6mm, which is what I use mainly.

I'm not using the plate in the bottom of mine, and it doesn't drop any pellets between feeds (unless a cat jumps on it).
At the moment I've actually got a mix of sinking pellets and 3mm pellets in there, and still haven't had any issues.
I think the fish look forwards to me refilling their feeder as they get a little bonus meal out of itLast edited by Feline; 12-07-2017 at 06:13 PM.
