How do you feel?
Hi to everyone also having a quite Friday night. I was just wondering if everyone gets the mixed emotions I feel when I have just purchased my most expensive koi so far. I don't know what is greater the excitement or the nerves. Be interesting to know.

Enjoy your purchase Simon, if you don't then there's really no point to the hobby!
I know what you mean about feeling nervous though. I sometimes have nightmares about my best koi dying in freak accidents or disease outbreaks.
But sitting by the pond (where I am now) with a glass of wine in my hand it's all worthwhile2016 new 6000 gallon pond

If it's 'serious' money, then I'd be nervous too!
But then I'm like that every time I introduce a new koi to the pond. Good luck and fingers crossed.1630 Gallon raised pond

I've mentioned this before.
I always find some de-merit in any any fish I've got.
"Koi's Law" states, that; "If you lose a fish, it's likely to be your favourite."
So this lessons the blow a bit, if it happens, or am I kidding myself?"The information's out there,
You only have to let it in." (Jesse Stone)

I could have bought a decent car or gone on 2/3 good holidays for what I have lost in koi over the years
I'm sure I'm not the only one! I say buy what you can afford to lose, there are no guarantee with koi, here today gone tomorrow, all we can do is the best we can for them
I have put a seal of £200ish and no more these days! it hurts too much when you see big bucks dying in front of you! anyway hope your new purchase is a stunner and worth every penny, post a pic so we can all have a look

Steve

Thank you for your comments. She came from mitch koi. It was the first time I have used them and I wasn't disappointed. Not the same as taking a trip out to have a good look though but unfortunately there aren't many koi dealers within 2 hours of my village.
Cheers.
Simon.

Hi Marc love your pond build by the way. I'm in Suffolk I'm about an hour from hill house koi and everyone else is about 2 hours away unfortunately this time of year you have to follow tractors and combines if you want to go anywhere so takes you ages to get onto the main roads.

Simon
The attitude to take is that when a Koi is in the pond it matters not whether it cost £50 or £5,000, the money is spent and is no longer a concern. With any livestock there are risks and all we can do as Koi keepers is to do our best.
Caring for an expensive or a large fish is no different from an inexpensive one, for sure you never want to be afraid of having to net, scrape or treat a fish purely because of its value...
New fish are exciting and there is always that little tingle when you walk down to the pond hoping they will still be in there swimming happily for the first few days but don't stress overly just enjoy the fish.
