sorry about the lack of photos from myself and Lisa (boo) on this thread, we went out to take the photos with all good intentions today and ended up changing the uv bulbs instead , which is no easy task as i never allowed enough room to manouvre the bulbs out when i was doing all the plumbing , so it was a case of popping down to Tc Koi and grabbing a couple of 55watt bulbs then sorting that out . also picked up a new net head which i thought would just be a five minute job unscrewing the old one , popping the new head into the handle then screwing that in , turns out that two of the screws had somehow become unmoveable , so after breaking two hacksaw blades, 7 dremel attachments , a drill bit and my will to live, we now have a smashing new net head and all is well , finished all this around 9:30pm at which point lisa jokingly asked if i was still going to photo the little ones to enter on here , not going to type my reply , but needless to say we shall definatly post our photos tomorrow ....

Hiya... planning on taking some update pics soon before they bed down for the winter... do you have a date that you want updated pics in for? Not sure when the close of this comp is, and looking forward to seeing how everyone has got on.

Finally Three - Sekiguci Showa - Orig from Gatwick Koi end of 2010 now 41 cms
[ps the motoguro [sp] is same in both pecs - HARD to get pic showing it with my skills and not saying it for extra points Just because I absolutely love this fish and can't help saying ].
haha ok just to prove it... yeah I know my pic taking skills suck
Thanks for running the comp - the most fun I have from the hobby is watching how my koi develop and am into the smaller ones to grow on as I have said many times before heh. Really looking forward to seeing updates from others and see how they have come along and changed... Davej Gazza and Pondy will have done some growing methinks

Hey Gaz nice one!
The showa has filled nicely, and did a little comparison has the Gazza growth methinks .
Your showa like mine is bringing sumi out slow... and for me I like that, maybe something I made up in my head but something back in the cobwebs I call a brain says that sometime a ways back I was told/read that the longer the sumi takes to come out the stronger it may be ... sort of coming up from 'deep' - is that a myth or can someone support that?
Anyway one of the reasons I love showa - never can be certain what you will end up with so hope springs eternal

Hi Dave,
Its tough to call what is good Sumi or bad Sumi when its not all come through and the best way is to try and look at what is already there and then see what that looks like. There is of course knowing the breeder and how there fish turn out but that normally can come with a bit of a price tag
For us poor mortals all we can do is just take a punt on an old munter and hope it works out
