Haha, ok.
Are you seeing much difference in size?
Would all the offspring of two showas be showas or would you get some other types?
Yes, we are back to John's stupid questions

Not at a week but the Tancho Kohaku fry that are 4 weeks do vary, I'll grab a pic when down the shed - Pondy is coming round later for a session with the hoover..
You will get all sorts, but keeping just the black narrows things down considerably.
Shiro and Showa will be what I am hoping for if/ when they get a little larger but that's all part of the buzz. I don't expect to get much of any quality but can always dream

Tancho fry are just the same as any Kohaku fry, yellow..
The chances of getting a true natural Tancho exist in any Kohaku spawn but from what I understand Tancho have an unstable beni gene and breeders put sets of Tancho together to try and exploit this and build upon it, thereby creating a much greater chance of getting more Tancho from fry.
The downside being that when the beni is first visible (and it wont be long now) a really high proportion are culled out. AND then maybe 99% require some cosmetic tidying up... The limited numbers I have from this spawn are such that there is little need to cull out and I'm not gonna start out with the scalpel.
So in Summary from the Tancho fry I will be looking for simple Kohaku, the positive thing is that the fish from the parent set are a reasonable size and have the potential to get to serious size so I am hoping that there is a slim chance of a few of the babes having these attributes..
I'll grab some pics when I get a moment.

Jumbo hum
Shed load of hard work especially having been away 3 days a week for the last 6 .
The small number of Tancho Kohaku fry are at stage when you can get an idea of pattern maybe the odd one will be worth playing with but nothing spectacular..
Feeding these babes is fun fun fun, moved them over to small pellets but they so love their thrice daily feed of artemia.
Took the decision to release the Showa fry from their holding net into the main tank.. Challenges in guarding the outlets so they dont get sucked into the drum but system seems to be working.
Decent numbers in there but few too many yellows still in there , they show up more but in reality are down to a couple %.... , some inevitable casualties, think there are a couple of tobies at work that will take a tail off that needs sorting, its worse when you can see it than in a natural environment... They are getting newly hatched brine and fine powder, in the evening under the lights its a great scene.
Challenge is to balance the feed , keep the water sweet and push them on to a stage when I can get an idea of whats what.
And the rejects from the black / yellow cull. or some of them at least, are doing well in the wildlife pond..

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
