Starting to feel sorry for the little guy, he will have fun wrestling those two big girls, any reason for only one male?

Most of my Boys are Matsue and I'd prefer not to pair too close, end result would potentially compromise the end result..
It I had another Takigawa male it would be in there as well. Got a couple of other options male Kohaku wise but happy to take a hit on fertilisation rates in terms of potentially getting better end quality.
He may get knocked about a touch but no where near as much as in a flock spawning in the main pond.

He was pretty cool yesterday but rather a different state this evening after half hour flapping around on the patio .
Pretty lifeless when I found him - but a tad of action from the gills.... took a good while to get him upright. Looks pretty beaten up and is going to need some serious stitching of the tail.... but alive....
My fault, moved him into the vat but didn't fully secure the cover..

I am feeling sorry for him now, I thought the girls were going to beat him up, look a good male koi before his trip to the patio, you not the only one last night was feeding mine by hand and they got spooked and my little chags court his mouth and ripped it , gutted but is ok today but mouth looks saw.

One of those painful mistakes Jason....
I'm sore about it but the good thing is that I got lucky and he's still swimming...

Were you borrowing this koi off a friend for the spawning?

Really sorry to hear about the accident Dave.
Don't beat yourself up, bet you never do it again and it could have been much worse.
Hope all goes well now.

Yep, once bitten.... cover was there but only loosely lashed on...
Just now need to make the decision on whether to move the Boys down to the shed to service the Kohaku after they have finished with the Tancho and whilst their sap is up...
I'm hoping that the hormones from the activity in the vat being fed back to the main pond dont kick them off... what's for sure from their behaviour is that a few brushes would tip things.
Busy day ahead...

Little fella is looking bedraggled but salvageable..
Nothing happening when I went down at 4am, Tancho kicked off at 7 - Finished at around 2... heavy load of eggs on the brushes which I have moved inside and left the vat with the remaining eggs circulating from the main pond...
Main pond fish were less than impressed with all the hormones etc coming from the return from the vat but didnt want to complicate things by putting brushes in there..
No significant collateral damage to the fish...
Onto Round 2;
Managed to grab "Hot Lips" a very tidy bullet of a Kohaku from underneath the foam on the main pond and dropped him in with the Kohaku in the growing on tank... Tempted to put in another lad but happy to take the knock on fertilisation rates..
Behaviour wise things are looking encouraging for another early start and another very smelly day
Dave.
