Hi, is your garden fairly open? Herons will not usually land near a pond they prefer to land close and then walk. I had a heron at my old house which nearly cleared me out but since moving and fencing an area for the pond away from the kids, i have had no problems, touch wood. Not sure if decoy herons really work either.

Lee.

hi, im lucky i dont get herons as they cant land, but extreme koi has a heron scarer that links to a hose and when triggered shoots a jet of water , its great...you can buy them quite cheap on ebay now and they do work ;) or else get a high powered rifle and shoot the ******s... ;D

hi there
you could try 2 strands of wire the first at 8 inch high then another at 16 inch set about a foot back from the edge of your pond all the way around Â*your pond this stops the lanky grey t**t from walking in your pond. if not id follow bretts suggestion ,but dont get caught Â*. Â* normally if you can stop them for a while they dont tend to come back.

how about a pergola over the pond- here they don't like going under them ;)

advocating the use of violence against these birds is very naughty! ;D

I used to have a lot of problems with a heron, I built a pergola over the pond and it seems to have done the trick.

stick two alcaselzer in a piece of bread and place it inside a dead roach from your nearest fishing shop and leave on the wall of your pond or on the floor, it wont kill them but it will make them think twice about coming back,...cheers vince ;D

if your pond has staght sids and the heron can not walk or stand in your pond ? then the best thing is to make sure that from the top of your edging to the top of your water must be 12" and then the heron can not get at your koi as they will not be able to reach them .
thanks darren
