What are the best plants for creating an anoxic pond? also oxygenating ones too, what species of these plants are best?

I have an Anoxic filter partly planted. It is not the plants that make the baskets (if that is what you are using) anoxic, the baskets are just a handy place to put plants if you want them in your pond. Half of my anoxic filter is in the dark where no plants will grow. You may find that plants change the PH of your pond.

Some of my planted anoxic baskets have got lillies in them so must be in deeper water, some are marginal plants where the basket is barely covered with water. The best oxygenating plants would be those which have their leaves under the water, out of the water any oxygen is immediately lost to the atmosphere. I tend to think that oxygenation by plants is a bit of a white elephant since you would need tons. I have plants because my wife thinks they look nice.

Thank you for advice HK, yes it does make sense that any oxygenating plants would need to be underwater. It seems then from what you said, that any worthwhile oxygenating is really only done by waterfalls air stones etc and not so much by the plants?.

I think its nice you have plants because your wife thinks they look nice well if and when I actually have a pond to put some plants in, I'm sure my Mrs will appreciate them also

What I am considering is to build a deep anoxic pond and stack the required baskets, then have the top row of baskets be only for aquatic plants. Would this work I wonder.

Yes it would, read the novel construction idea by Brian Woodcock in my article:

Lilly roots don't stay in baskets I have two Lilly rysombes (ics) that have crossed into each other's baskets.

So expect that after a season of growing you may find more than one basket connected together.

I suspect any plant is suitable for anoxic baskets dependent of water depth.

    I've got:
    Golden Buttons
    Water forget-me-nots
    Marsh Marigolds
    Barred Horsetail
And loads of different Lilies planted from 6" below surface down to 24" below surface.

The key is to get plants where the roots don't take over. I heard that Iris roots can burst the baskets, and some lily roots too. Not sure what my bigger lilies are because they were a cheap "lucky dip" random selection, but if they burst out of the baskets within a year then I'll chuck them into the wildlife pond.

I have several floating planters on my ponds however both the wind and the fish do turn them over as any trailing leaves or branches are pulled on and they flip over especially when at times of great growth ie summer not so much early spring they become top heavy, so best to prune. some people have said the fish do it to get at insects ?
I have used planters attached to pots with stones in as anchors dropped to the bottom and seem to work.
oxygenators get shredded only tougher leave variants ie lilly or iris survive in mine.

    hope this helps

I'm no expert in anoxic filter planted or not. But I have an education as gardener and though my experience with plants is based on trees. I guess you can control any plant by trimming roots and top.
If you don't I'm pretty sure they will out grow the baskets sooner or later.
Of course there will be species that is more aggressive than others and less suitable
