Bare Rooted
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to plan what plants I want in my veggie filter, and wondered if most things are ok bare rooted, just direct in the water, no soil.
My pond up north had Iris in it that were bare rooted and they grew like crazy, I really couldn't keep control of them. Iris are probably what I'll go for in this pond too, but want some other plants too.
So, what can I use bare rooted?
Cheers,
Jay

Marsh Marigold (Caltha Palustris) - That'll grow like a
good un. Doesn't need any substrate.
Cyperus Involucratus will grow. They'll grow much better in soil but i have one bare rooted which has grown. It will need supporting though. As will....
Equisetum Hyemale (Dutch Rush / Ringed Horsetail) - Same as above. Will grow bare rooted but does better "planted". Will need supporting initially.
Obviously Water Hyacinth, Water Lettuce Water Cress And Water Soldiers.

Andre,
I'm finally getting plants for my pond so have looked back at your post.
you added a little list at the bottom of your post, and one of the plants was Water Cress, does this float like Water Hyacinth? I'm thinking of putting it in and letting it go nuts in my flowerbed until the other plants get established, but as the title of my post, it will be bare rooted.
Cheers,
Jay
